STEEP SLOPE

Often referred to as “residential roofing” due to the fact that most homes in the U.S. are constructed with some sort of pitch to the roof, Steep Slope Roofing includes all materials that are installed on structures over substrates with a slope of 3/12 or greater. For residential construction, the roof can consist of 40% of the exterior appearance of a home, making it critical that the materials used are visually appealing. The extensive variety of materials, which includes slate, tile, metal and shingles, allow you to choose a Steep Slope System that meets both your performance and aesthetic needs.

LOW SLOPE

Low Slope Systems are exactly as they sound, systems installed on a low slope (slope of 2/12 or less). Frequently, these are called flat roofs. Flat roofs have properties that are drastically different than those of Steep Slope Systems and because of this require special attention to detail when selecting the roof system material.

Roofing Maintenance

Roof leaks can be caused by many different things. Storm damage from hail, cracked and sun damaged shingles, old worn out shingles, tree damage from falling limbs, damage by people walking on the roof. The list goes on and on.

PREVENTION

However, 90% of all roof leaks are caused by improper installation or by defective metal flashing. Rarely does the actual roofing product fail. Flashing is found near any roof penetration area such as chimney areas, step, apron and valley areas where roof angles join together. During a roof repair, it is necessary to look for any other roof damage that could lead to additional problems. If leaks are not addressed, the structure of your home may be weakened as the building frame continues to be exposed to dampness.

REPAIR

Poor installation of the shingles, which are sometimes nailed incorrectly, may need to be addressed. Also missing shingles need to be replaced. Clogged gutters can also cause roofing problems. Water may overflow the back of the gutter and leak along the walls and inside of the home. Another area is the flue pipes inside of a chimney can cause water to leak if they are not properly aligned. It is very important that homeowners check their roof for needed repairs regularly or call a licensed roofing contractor.
